This is MICYA.
Established in 2021, Merrylands Islamic Centre for Youth & Adults (MICYA) is a community-based charity and not-for-profit organisation.
We are one of the first organisations to seek a uniquely Merrylands expression of Islam. We believe this begins with Muslims thinking deeply about their faith and what it means to live it in a Merrylands context.
Connect with our community
Faith.
Connection.
Belonging.
Our aims.
- Promote greater understanding and awareness of Islam.
- Organise, educate and support the development of Merrylands Muslim communities.
- Encourage a positive contribution to Merrylands society and promote social justice.
A community of volunteers.
We are one of the largest national networks of Australian Muslim volunteers, bringing together the broad skills of members from many backgrounds, including stay-at-home mums and dads, doctors, lawyers and teachers.
Led by our members.
Members directly elect the Chair and a National Policy Board (Shura), which oversees the organisation’s direction and policies. A National Executive oversees operations and the delivery of projects.
Locally, members also elect a Branch Coordinator and establish working committees to guide voluntary work in their communities.
Faith in everyday life.
MICYA seeks to play an important and positive role in how Australian Muslims think about their faith. Our innovative activities have broken new ground, encouraging and empowering others to create projects of their own.
We view Islam as a religion of peace and a continuation of age-old teachings from God to humanity. We understand it as a way of life centred spiritually on the worship of one God, and socially on justice and equity between people.
